As with most eighties splatter flicks, SEDUCTIONS contains an Old Testament sense of morality visited upon characters who behave badly, and in most cases exist only to be picked off. This being a first novel, allowances will have to be made for the overly deliberate set-up, perfunctory characterizations and simplistic splatter movie-ish narrative. This was the first novel by Ray Garton, and a book that greatly upset one of its first readers, the late Robert Bloch-who allegedly informed the young Garton that “you’re unwell.” SEDUCTIONS was certainly like nothing else being published back in 1984 in its unapologetic mix of eroticism and violence, with stunningly gruesome imagery that nowadays seems right out of the Japanese WICKED CITY anime and series of novels. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments Hunger of the gods paperback![]() ![]() ![]() Our characters may all be living through a legendary saga quite like no other, but glory, fame and to be remembered in song is no longer as desirable as it once seemed. Lik-Rifa the great and terrible dragon god is free, and after an eternity of being held prisoner her wrath knows no bounds. The dead gods have risen and in their wake vengeance is fought with tooth and claw, and the tremors of war are felt throughout the lands of Vigrið. The Hunger of the Gods is simply breathtaking, a ruthlessly brutal Norse mythological tale from a truly masterful storyteller. I knew the next instalment in the saga would be one of vengeance, of found families, of saving those you love, and I knew Gwynne would inject plenty of his signature cinematic battle-scenes, but never once did I imagine he could leave me gasping and shaking even after I closed the very last page. At the end of the first book I was left in a state of awe, conjuring up many ways in which Orka, Elva and Varg’s stories would continue. The Bloodsworn saga continues in The Hunger of the Gods, John Gwynne’s superbly epic follow up to The Shadow of the Gods. ![]() This review will contain spoilers for The Shadow of the Gods. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Tails, You Lose by Carol J. However, his Travels with Charley, first edition with dust jacket, is worth around $100. A first edition of John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath in good condition is worth around $2,500. Additionally, some books by famous authors are better than others. Who wrote that?Ī book is more likely to appeal to collectors, and therefore be worth more, if you have actually heard of the book or its author. If you have one on a good book, treasure it and be sure to protect it with a plastic sleeve. This huge difference in value is largely due to the fact that more than 90% of dust jackets are destroyed, either deliberately or due to their ephemeral and fragile nature. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night with dust jacket is around $6,000. If there is one single thing that is a make or break for book value, it would be the dust jacket.
